Q: FYI: How old is the cabin? What is its history?

A: The cabin was built in 1977 and the original owners lived there year-round. In 1984 the Tjader family acquired it as a second home and began offering it as a vacation rental. The style is called "Modified A-Frame." The roof does not go to a direct, pointed "A" - it widens out to give more interior space on the second floor. There are about eight other similar homes in Dollar Point by the same builder. This cabin-style is seldom seen anymore in new construction. The house has been kept in its original format with no additions. The shake roof was replaced with asphalt shingles and the kitchen was remodeled in 2005.

Q: FYI: Why is it a cabin and not a house?

A: A cabin is defined as a small, temporary lodging in a rural setting. Different from a larger house which would be a permanent residence. A house might have a garage. A cabin does not. Tahoe City Cabin is furnished and decorated as a vacation dwelling, not a permanent residence.

Q: What paymnet methods do you accept?

A: Online transfer can be made to our Wells Fargo account. Next choice is checks. Credit cards can be used with an additional 4% fee. Credit cards can be used for the deposit without a fee when the payment is less than 30 days from the check-in date.

Q: Can I do the housekeeping myself and not pay the housekeeping fee?

A: No. The process must be done to our specifications and standards to ensure that the house is in proper condition for the next guest. To keep housekeeping charges as low as possible, the check-out procedure includes the guest stripping the bed linens; loading and running the dishwasher; restocking firewood used; cleaning the BBQ grill; taking out the garbage. Alternately there is a $10.00 charge for each of these items not done by the guest.
